We enter the most solemn part of our Holy week Celebration! Time to do our 5S for the Soul...
We first begin with Sorting.... We reflect on the past year and SORT out what good have we done and what not so good and unnecessary activities we had.in the past year. We RECOLLECT...
Once we are satisfied with our SORTING of Souls... we proceed with INITIAL CLEANING... We go to CONFESSION and ask pardon for the many sins , not so good things we have done. Get ourselves a good clean up from the inside and out.
Then we do SET THINGS in ORDER.... We define our priorities in life. We put more time to what we hold dearly. Lie having to improve our relationships with our loved ones and friends, and community.
The we define our STANDARDS. By this we update our set of norms, our guidelines. We do this by putting into journals or written form our priorities, our dreams and aspirations, and guiding principles.
Then we SUSTAIN. ..We make sure we keep tab of our priorities in life, and check out if our daily activities are aligned with our STANDARDS...
This is our 5S for the SOUL!
God bless us all!

5S at Home....
In my trips abroad and travels all over the Philippines, I always get a chance to get into other people"s homes. In so many occasions, I see that there is a need to do 5S.
Most basic we can do on this at home is waste sorting and segregation. Homes can help reduce waste generation by segregating those that can be recycled, reuse or sold. Waste bins must be designated for plastics and papers, and food wastes.
Another thing most homes have are clutters. Things frequently used and those which are seldom or even not being used are together in the same cabinet. We need to perform sorting . We just have to make sure we take out from our cabinets those we do not use anymore and it will be good to either sell them via garage sale or better yet donate them.
Another annoyance at home is looking for things needed, like keys to the car, or certain room or lockers. Or even looking for tools that is needed. So much time and energy is wasted looking for it and it even results to irritations in the home. This can be addressed by doing the setting in order. Or in other words putting things in same place in orderly manner. This can be done by labeling and binning things, making those frequently used easily accessible. For example, examine where you put you car keys, your emergency lights, your hammer, screw drivers, and other things you need either frequently or not so frequent. Then, arrange them such that they are easily accessible.
These are just few of the examples how we can apply 5S at home.
For more guidance, I would be willing to assist you on this.

5S and Save Mother Earth!
Much hype has been given to climate change, depletion of natural resources, and eventual death of mother earth. So much money is spent by people and organization to inform and educate people on the cause and consequences of climate change. High level organizations, high profile people are involved, and the different modes of media are utilized.
While global concerted efforts are required, and having as key indicator to reduce the carbon emissions, this still cannot translate to what each one person, each one family, each locality , must do to contribute in saving Mother Earth.
In this regard, I believe that a global 5S Program is a key solution. 5S must be initiated and be done by each person in his own area of control. Starting with his home, and in his office or workplace. 5S will eliminate waste, and thus reduce energy consumption, and reduce disposals.
I see this waste management activities in action in Europe specifically in Germany. In essence, what they do is basic waste segregation and recycling which is just a small component of 5S.
I am happy to see this waste management activity in barangays and towns in Cavite initiated by NGOs but again it is not complete and comprehensive as it could be with 5S.
5S has a higher level impact and it can save Mother Earth!
God bless us all!

New Year! Time for 5S
Happy New Year to all 5S Blog Readers... I am sure you still can see and smell up to this time the thrash and smoke that the New Year revelry ushered in. Perfect time to begin the year clean through 5S Patrol and Check-ups for those who are already into it, and time for companies to set up their 5S System and Teams to bring order and cleanliness and efficiency to the factory this new year.
New Year certainly means , new goals, new policy deployments and higher performance goals for the entire factory. 5S can be very useful in making sure the factory achieves higher efficiencies.
At home, last month was the best month to do your year end 5S...but just in case you have failed o do it because you were on vacation, just like us, then now is the right time to do it.
Happy New Year...Let's get our 5S going!
God bless!
